South Eastern Branch News

Members from the South Eastern Branch competed at the culinary competitions at IFEX in Belfast this week. And here are the results.

Profile of Norbet Thul, Executive Chef, Ard Ri Hotel, Waterford

Norbert is a German National and was educated at the Colleges of Trier and Bemkastell Kues on the river Mosel in Germany. Following this he trained in modem and classical cuisine in the kitchens of a family-run hotel, as well as gaining work experience in other hotels and restaurants on the continent including the Hotel Intercontinental in Frankfurt, and the Novotel's in Mainz and Offenbach.

In 1980 Norbert moved to Ireland and took up a position in the Hotel Europe in Killamey where he worked for two seasons. He then travelled to England where he worked as Head Chef in the RoyalLancaster Hotel, as well as Le Bistroquet Restaurant in Camden.

Norbert came back to Ireland in 1990 to take up the position of Executive Chef in Jurys Hotel, which now is the Ard Ri Hotel.

In the past Norbert has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Chefs Organisation the Panel of Chefs of Ireland Ltd. and as Chairman of the South Eastern Branch of the same Company. He is now the Vice Chairman of the local branch of this organisation for the third term.

Norbert is also a member of The Epicurean World Master Chefs Society and Euro- Toques, which is the European community of chefs and cooks.
